Utah is known for having some of the best skiing terrain in the U.S., but it has plenty to offer in the warmer months as well. From exploring new hiking trails to going to a tulip festival, here are five ways to soak up springtime near Summit Creek.
Attend the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival
From April 9 to May 8, spring will be in full bloom at the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival in Lehi. Admiring the colorful bulbs is a great way to officially usher in the new season, so make sure to purchase tickets in advance since space is limited. On the way back, you might even want to swing by a local nursery to pick up some flowers (or plants) to liven up your living space.
Go on a Hike (and Pack a Picnic)
One of the best parts of living in Utah is that you’ll never run out of new hiking trails to explore. So lace up your hiking boots, grab a friend, and spend an afternoon exploring some nearby trails such as the Provo River Trail. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch (complete with your favorite fruit juice or energy drink) to enjoy along the way.
Go on a Train Ride
For a romantic date or memorable day out with the kids, take a train ride through the mountains on the Heber Valley Railroad. You can pick from a variety of options, including the Provo Canyon Limited (which winds around the shores of Deer Creek Reservoir on its way from Heber to Provo) and the Easter Bunny Train (a 40-minute round trip ride with the Easter Bunny on board). No matter which one you choose, going on a train ride is a great way to admire the springtime flowers and freshly grown grass.
Participate in a Cheese Tasting
Looking for a fun day out with the kids? Take them to Kohler Creamery in Heber Valley, where they’ll get to see the new calves and get a behind-the-scenes-look at a dairy farm. If you time it right, you can also sign the family up for a bi-weekly cheese tasting, where over 30 flavors of Cheddar cheese will be available.
Go Swimming in a Crater
Nothing says “hello, spring” like heading to the large calcite dome known as the Homestead Crater. Inside, you’ll find a mineral rich hot spring with water that is naturally 95 degrees year-round. Heated from lava underground, the water is the perfect place to go scuba diving, snorkeling, and swimming. (Reservations are recommended.)
