While it can be tempting to spend all winter inside with mugs of hot chocolate perpetually on standby, every once in a while it’s important to get out and enjoy the fresh air. From cross-country skiing to fat tire biking, here are four ways you can make the most of Utah’s gorgeous scenery…and make some special memories with your loved ones in the process.
Snowshoeing
If you’re looking for a memorable way to get from point A to point B this winter, why not go snowshoeing? By picking the right gear and practicing some tried-and-true techniques, you’ll soon be snowshoeing like a pro. Since Summit Creek has an array of trails and open spaces just outside your door, you’ll be able to enjoy this activity anytime there’s a fresh blanket of sparkling snow. You can also take a drive to Parleys Canyon or Big Cottonwood Canyon for some of the best snowshoeing trails in the state.
Cross-Country Skiing
While there are plenty of ski resorts that are well worth a visit, you can have fun a little closer to home by trying your hand at cross-country skiing. Simply bundle up in your warmest clothes, put on your cross-country skis, and glide across the wintery terrain in the shadow of Loafer Mountain. Whether you want to bring your phone and headphones so you can listen to your favorite podcast or simply enjoy the snow-covered vistas in solitude, cross-country skiing makes it easy to burn calories and be treated to some stellar views in the process. We’d call that a win-win!
Fat Tire Biking
While biking is a favorite pastime for many Summit Creek residents, winter is the perfect time to switch things up by going fat tire biking. Because fat tires are designed to provide additional contact surface, they work especially well in conditions like mud or snow. We’d recommend taking a ride along the trails that unfurl on Loafer Mountain—and packing a thermos of apple cider to sip on the way.
Build a Snowman
It wouldn’t feel quite like winter without snowmen…so don’t forget to build a masterpiece in your yard this year. Make it even more memorable by holding a snowman-building competition for your family members. Winner gets first dibs on a celebratory round of frosted sugar cookies and hot chocolate!
