Summit Creek enjoys four full seasons of excitement for the whole family; and, while it’s tough to pick favorites, there’s something to be said for hitting Utah’s most acclaimed slopes come wintertime. So, as we enter the cooler months and inch towards ski season, why not start training to make those turns you’ve been dreaming about? With Summit Creek’s 300+ acres of uninhibited land just beyond your doorstep, the ideal conditioning grounds await within effortless reach. Below, read up on our preferred ways to get in skiing shape during the off-season.
Mountain Biking
Hit the dirt trails to improve endurance, strengthen leg muscles and fine-tune agility. Not only does mountain biking help prepare both the mind and body to take on the ski slopes, but it’s also one of the best ways to get to know our backcountry and many nearby mountain routes, including local favorites such as Three Forks Loop in Spanish Fork and Slate Canyon Loop Trail, Rock Canyon Trail and Big Springs Hollow Trail in Provo.
Yoga
Skiing and snowboarding might be all about speed, but slowing down to practice yoga can help prepare you for a successful day on the mountain by improving balance, strength, flexibility and mental focus. Head to Summit Creek’s Loafer Clubhouse for a class at our fitness center or step outside for a flow amid the natural splendor that surrounds us.
Trail Running
No one wants noodle legs after their first run of the season, which is why we love trail running to train for the slopes. Navigating uneven terrain requires strength, balance and concentration—all of which are essential for snow sports. And, with unrestrained access to trails that meander Loafer Mountain and Santaquin Peak right beyond your front door, training for ski season is as effortless as tying your shoes and stepping out.
